A local police officer from Lloret de Mar, javelin champion

Angelo Cordero, a corporal with the Lloret de Mar Local Police, has been crowned European javelin champion in the over-35s category at the European Police and Firefighters Games held in Vigo. The gold medal comes after a year of physical and technical preparation, during which he has returned to a discipline that was once part of his sporting youth.

Cordero’s involvement in athletics began years ago at the Lloret Athletics Club, where he practised javelin throwing. Over time, that competitive phase became a thing of the past, but the opportunity to compete in this discipline once more arose when he learnt of the programme for the European Police and Firefighters Games.

Discovering that the championships included athletics events was the incentive he needed to start training again. From then on, he decided to rise to the challenge through dedicated preparation and gradually regain the movements and technique required to compete once more.
